Alcorn Recognized For Community Service

Jill Alcorn, Executive Director of Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council in Leicester, NY was the recipient of the 2003 Community Service Award of the Rural Housing Coalition.  The award was presented at the Coalition’s annual conference in Auburn, NY on October 7th.

Jill was recognized for her role in guiding the development and growth of GVRPC, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.  Jill was a founding board member of the organization and then became its first Executive Director.  Under her leadership, GVRPC has developed 289 units of affordable rental housing in Livingston County and neighboring communities, representing an investment of $16.5 million.  The housing rehabilitation programs of GVRPC have upgraded over 200 homes, and 250 families have become homeowners as a result of GVRPC’s efforts.

Jill has also been active in the New York State Rural Housing Coalition and the NYS Rural Advocates, having served on the Boards of both organizations.
